The Cayman Islands national women’s softball team has claimed the Nicaraguan International Softball Tournament trophy, after going undefeated in four matches over the weekend.
The women’s team batted into action on Saturday, 3 Sept., at the Brian Piccolo Sports Park & Velodrome in Cooper City, Florida, defeating Surviours 20-3.
Cayman then earned their second victory on the day, beating Re United 11-4.
The Cayman Softball Association, in an email to the Compass, highlighted key players, like pitcher Carneth Thomas and batters Alikie Kandler and Breana Welds-Morgan, who made game-changing contributions to earn the team their first pair of wins.
Cayman played their semifinals match the following day, 4 Sept, against Bilwili.
After over an hour of their toughest match of the tournament, Cayman prevailed, edging Bilwili 14-13 to advance to the finals later in the day.
“This was what they were all waiting for, the Championship Game,” the Cayman Softball Association stated. “We were all confident that we had this game covered. Straight to the 7th inning which was the last bat.”
That confidence was justified as the Caymanian women would go on to win the trophy, after defeating 305 by a score of 5-2 in the championship match.
