Geoffry Ebanks, the now former chairman of the Cayman Islands National Housing Development Trust, has been charged with breach of trust and conflict of interest in relation to the removal of fill from a government housing site, the Anti-Corruption Commission has announced.
He is scheduled to appear in court on 8 Nov.

Housing Minister Jay Ebanks, when contacted by the Cayman Compass, said he could not comment on the matter.
However, he said, via WhatsApp message on Friday, that “I can confirm is that Mr Geoffry resigned from Housing on the 26 Oct.”
It is unclear who will replace the chairman at this time.
The former NHDT executive was under investigation following allegations earlier this year that fill material from a NHDT housing project site in North Side was illegally removed and delivered to a parcel of land connected to his relatives using agency resources.
The ACC, in a brief statement Friday afternoon, said Ebanks was charged with conflict of interest, contrary to Section 19(2) and 19(3) of the Anti-Corruption Act (2019 revision); and breach of trust, contrary to Section 13 of the Anti-Corruption Act (2019 revision.)
Both offences carry a term of imprisonment of five years each.
The commission said no further comment will be made in connection with the chairman’s case pending the outcome of the proceedings.

Back in March the Compass was informed of the allegations against the chairman and was told that the approximately half-acre of land, located on Ottos Avenue, North Side, had been recently cleared and was backfilled, allegedly using the material sourced from the NHDT site on the dime of the housing agency.
It is also alleged that fill was moved to farmland owned by relatives of the NHDT executive.
