Government and private organisations offer scholarships to educate Cayman Islands’ youth, and avoid financial constraints from keeping the best and brightest students from achieving their dreams.
There is a wide range of scholarships available in Cayman, including, but not limited to, the below.
CAYMAN ISLANDS GOVERNMENT
The Ministry of Education, through the Education Council, offers an overseas scholarship for an undergraduate degree to a maximum of $30,000 per annum, for up to four years, per successful applicant, and a post-graduate award of up to $35,000 per annum. The ministry also offers an Educational Scholarship which provides a maximum of $35,000 per annum for applicants pursuing teaching qualifications.
Application period for Ministry of Education scholarships runs from 15 November to 31 January for overseas scholarships and 1 March to 30 April for local scholarships.
The ministry also now offers The Government High Schools Scholar Award, valued at up to $100,000 per year, which aims to provide full tuition support to the most outstanding Caymanian male and female scholars accepted to pursue overseas undergraduate tertiary studies at some of the world’s most prestigious universities.
The Education Council in collaboration with other entities also provides scholarships in specialty areas specific to boat building – Gwen Bush Scholarship and the maritime industry – The MACI scholarship.

CAYMAN ISLANDS DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM
The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism offers partial and full scholarships to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree in tourism.

WATER AUTHORITY
The Water Authority offers an annual scholarship of up to $35,000 for students wishing to pursue higher education or a vocational degree in fields of study relevant to the work of the organisation. The deadline for applicants for the 2023 annual scholarship is 28 February.

GOVERNMENT OF CANADA
Global Affairs Canada (GAC) offers the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) scholarships, which provide students from postsecondary institutions in eligible Caribbean countries/ territories, with short-term exchange opportunities for study and research in Canadian post-secondary institutions, at college, undergraduate and graduate levels. ELAP scholarships are facilitated through institutional collaborations and student exchange agreements between post-secondary institutions in Canada and their partners in eligible Caribbean countries/territories.

ADDISON KELLY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Addison Kelly Memorial Scholarship is awarded for up to a maximum of four years for a bachelor’s or master’s degree or other certification from an accredited overseas institution. It is administered through the Alex Panton Foundation (APF) with support from Addi Kelly’s family. Applicants must be accepted to a competitively ranked and accredited institution to pursue studies in a programme related to mental health. For more details and criteria visit the website. APPLEBY
The Appleby Legal Scholarship programme provides funding for the law degree course and subsequent professional practice courses at the Truman Bodden Law School, or an approved overseas university, and is worth more than US$100,000 over the duration of the degree and professional practice courses. The scholarship covers tuition fees, examination fees, as well as the cost of necessary textbooks, and recipients are also provided with a living allowance of US$2,400 per month and four weeks’ work experience each summer in one of the company’s practice groups. BUTTERFIELD
The Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship provides financial assistance to Caymanian students, aged 17 to 25 years, with proven academic achievements and leadership abilities. The scholarship is available for any course of study that will benefit the Cayman Islands. The recipient will receive up to US$30,000 per annum for up to four years of study. Deadline is Friday, 31 March.

CAMPBELLS
Campbells offers an overseas undergraduate scholarship of up to US$20,000 for Caymanians, with preference given to legal applicants. Subject to meeting continuing conditions, successful applicants have the potential to be supported for the duration of their degree programme (three years), with the opportunity for additional support throughout their PPC, LPC (BVC), BPTC or equivalent. CAYMAN ISLANDS MONETARY AUTHORITY
CIMA’s Thomas Jefferson Memorial Scholarship was established in 2007 in memory of the late Thomas Jefferson, former Financial Secretary and Leader of Government Business. It offers an award of $25,000 per year for students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, public administration, or business administration. Recipients are required to work at CIMA during their school breaks, and on completion of their studies for a period of up to four years.

CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIP
Chevening is the UK Government’s international scholarship programme aimed at developing global leaders. Chevening scholarships offer full financial support to relocate to the UK and study any of the 12,000 available master’s degree courses at more than 150 UK universities. It offers a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting, positive relationships. Supported by the Governor’s Office, applications from Caymanians for the next cohort in 2024/25 will be open from September to November 2023.

CIMPA
The CIMPA Scholarship is an annual $5,000 scholarship that is awarded based on merit to a local student with an interest in pursuing a career in marketing or other related fields. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a local educational institution (or accredited online educational programme) and be between 16-25 years of age. Compass Media offers a journalism scholarship worth $2,500 to Caymanian applicants with a desire to pursue a further education locally or overseas with a view to a career in the journalism industry. DART
Dart offers two scholarships: one is for Caymanian high school students entering Grade 9/Year 10 that includes all school, book, and uniform fees at the local school of choice for four years of study; the other is the William A. Dart Memorial University Scholarship, which is awarded to a Caymanian student entering a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited overseas institution, with an annual renewal subject to academic performance. Both scholarships offer paid summer work experience at Dart as well as mentorship opportunities with Dart employees.

DELOITTE
Deloitte awards scholarships to Caymanian students every year, typically those interested in accounting and finance, though other disciplines relevant to Deloitte’s service offerings are considered. Scholarship students gain professional, real-world experience through paid summer internships and are offered fulltime positions upon completion of their degree and provided support for professional qualifications. Applicants must have a minimum of 3.2 GPA, at least 5 IGCSE/GCSE/CXE passes with grade B or 2, a SAT score of at least 1,200, and demonstrated leadership skills and participation in community activities.

EY
The annual EY Scholarship is valued at up to US$30,000 per annum and is renewable for up to a maximum of fi ve years until the recipient has completed the minimum educational requirements to qualify for a professional licence. Successful applicants must be looking for career experience in a dynamic environment and enrolled full-time at an approved college or university; working toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, finance, computer science, actuarial science, mathematics, data analytics or other appropriate major with a strong academic record. Applications are accepted on an annual basis from 15 January to 15 April. All scholarship recipients, should they qualify, agree to pursue full-time employment with EY for a minimum period of three years after they have completed the educational requirements in their course of study.

INSPIRE CAYMAN

Inspire Cayman Training has established a non-profit Build Your Future Cayman Scholarship Fund to assist Caymanians aspiring to careers in construction, automotive, PADI and other technical jobs, gain access to professional development training. BYFC applicants are high school students, high school graduates, unemployed, underemployed, incarcerated and recently released persons from the prison service. Since April 2020, the BYFC charity has awarded $220,000 in scholarships to 125 Caymanians and assisted more than 70 persons with the employment, internships, and apprenticeships.

ISLAND HERITAGE
The Island Heritage Educational Grant of US$10,000 is awarded annually to provide financial support to a Caymanian student, 16 to 25 years old, with a minimum 3.0 GPA, who is proceeding with full-time studies at an accredited college or university. A broad range of degree programmes/majors will be considered. As well as academic excellence, the criteria for selection includes demonstrated leadership experience and community engagement and service. The recipient is selected by a committee of Island Heritage staff members.

KIMPTON SEAFIRE RESORT + SPA
Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa seeks to recruit passionate Caymanians between the ages of 16 and 20 who are interested in pursuing a career in hospitality through their Seafire scholarship. This offers an award for full-time study at an accredited associate or technical programme of up to US$25,000 per year. Candidates must possess excellent character, work ethic, have a genuine interest in the hospitality industry, and have been accepted as a full-time student into an accredited associate or technical programme in a field related to the hospitality industry. Applicants must have successfully received their high school diploma and have maintained a minimum B average or GPA 3.5 over four years and be available to interview in person. KPMG
KPMG in the Cayman Islands offers scholarships to qualified Caymanian students who have attained strong academic achievement and wish to complete an undergraduate degree, locally or overseas. Students should possess an interest in pursuing a career in accounting, finance, tax, accounting information systems or sustainable finance in the Cayman Islands. KPMG provides financial assistance to attend university locally, and up to US$30,000 per academic year in addition to an airfare stipend, for a maximum of five years for overseas studies. MAPLES
The Maples Group has awarded more than 100 scholarships totalling nearly US$6 million in academic assistance, since 1994. The group’s scholarships are intended to provide assistance for appropriately qualified Caymanians who may have limited financial resources to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate degree courses at recognised colleges or universities. Scholarship funds are allocated for tuition, books and accommodation for the duration of the degree course. Legal scholarships are awarded up to US$40,000 per academic year; and non-legal up to US$15,000 per academic year. Legal scholarship application closes on 1 March, annually, and non-legal on 30 April, annually.

MOURANT
The Chantal Whittaker Memorial Scholarship was established to honour the memory of a beloved colleague whose personal commitment to mentoring, fostering community spirit and helping young people to develop and grow, left a legacy, which the firm strives to continue. Mourant’s scholarship programme provides financial assistance towards the cost of study for Caymanian students who intend to qualify, or who are appropriately qualified and have been accepted into an accredited institution to pursue a career in law. It also offers four weeks’ paid work experience, a personal mentor and the opportunity of a training contract when you finish your studies. Application deadline is 10 March.

MUFG
MUFG Investor Services in Cayman offers a two-year scholarship at a local institution, for those interested in accounting, finance or business management who want to further their education. At the end of the 2 years, successful students may also be eligible for further sponsorship with local or international institutions, or employment within MUFG. Eligible candidates are Caymanian or hold Caymanian status, have at least 4 IGCSE/CXC passes with a grade B or higher, or hold a GPA of 3.0 or higher, possess a proven and consistent superior scholastic record, have a strong desire and commitment to learn and develop their higher education, and look forward to a career in the hedge fund industry. All applications must include a cover letter (including goals), résumé, and two character references (at least one from a teacher or advisor). Additionally, college/university choices should also be identified, as well as tuition fees; and where possible, an acceptance letter. Deadline to apply is March 31, 2023.
OGIER
Ogier offers internships and/or scholarships to Caymanian students interested in pursuing a career in law. This year they are accepting scholarship applications for students interested in pursuing the LLB or LPC/SQE/PPC. Applicants are only eligible for consideration for scholarships if they have first secured a four-week internship, where their performance will be assessed. The scholarship award is for the duration of an individual’s legal studies and consists of financial support in installments prior to the start of each term/semester; guaranteed work placements at Ogier; invitations to social events at Ogier; use of Ogier’s library and information services; and careers advice from partners and other lawyers. Applications for the scholarship programme are invited from students due to sit their A-Levels in the summer preceding entry into the programme, together with students already at university or undertaking the LPC/SQE/PPC. PwC’s Career Development Programme offers scholarships for young Caymanians currently pursuing or graduating with a degree in accounting (or similar major) interested in earning a professional designation and excelling in a career in audit, tax or advisory. WALKERS

Walkers legal scholarships are awarded to eligible Caymanian students who have, amongst other things, demonstrated a high level of academic achievement and have an expressed interest in pursuing a career in law.
