Elite Sports Club women’s squad has done the unimaginable – capturing every Cayman Islands Football Association trophy while remaining unbeaten for the entire 2022-23 season.
It’s the first time in the 57-year history of CIFA that a women’s team captured four titles in a season, without a single loss.
Elite made it official after playing their final league fixture on Sunday, 4 June, in a game that they won 3-0. Prior to that, they convincingly captured the FA Cup by dominating Academy SC 8-1 in the finals, after winning both the Presidents Cup and the Charity Shield.
In noting the unmatched accomplishment, Elite women’s head coach Martha Godet spoke to the Compass, praising her team.
“With much pride, I commend my players and support staff for these great achievements,” she said. “This is a huge milestone. I do not believe achieving all titles undefeated has ever happened.”
In total, Elite won 21 times – three President’s Cup, two FA Cup and 15 league matches, plus the Charity Shield game. They also finished with the most goals in the league at 93, while conceding only seven goals.
Three of their players also finished as the top three on the goal scorers table – with Neesah Godet at 24, just ahead of Academy’s Jehnique Russell with 23, and Elites’ Kate Amigo and Molly Kehoe who were joint third with 16 goals each.
“The team’s performance for the entire season was great,” Godet said, while adding there was room for improvement. “With each game we played, I instilled in my players that every game is important, to treat it like a final game. We never underestimated any of our opponents.
“The success of this team is good leadership, coming from our most experienced players to the younger players. This is very important and, although we are not perfect… leadership is key and very crucial in all aspects of life.”
Godet reflected on the difficult time during the season, but credited God for seeing them through their valleys.
“We went through the season with many challenges,” she said. “Players [sustained] injuries, which reduced our number of players tremendously. All of it is to the glory of God.”
She also gave credit to the Elite SC men’s team, adding that they too should be proud of themselves for their efforts this season, where they won the Charity Shield and were the runners-up for the league title.
