Regional forecasters are monitoring Subtropical Storm Don as it churns in the Atlantic Ocean, hundreds of miles away from land in all directions.
Don is the fourth named storm of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season and poses no threat to the Cayman Islands.
In a weather bulletin issued at 7:25am Friday 14 July, US-based National Hurricane Center forecasters said the system was located in the centre of the upper Atlantic and generating maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour – 25 mph shy of a Category 1 hurricane.
“Don is moving toward the north-northwest near 8 mph… and that general motion should continue through tonight,” said forecasters. A turn toward the north is expected Saturday followed by a move toward the east by Sunday or Monday.
Current projections do not show Don strengthening any further.
