Cubans being held at the Customs and Border Control Detention Centre were evacuated Friday afternoon after a “small fire” broke out at the facility.
CBC, in a statement following the incident, said arson is suspected and it has referred the matter to police for investigation.
The fire occurred at approximately 12:45pm at the Fairbanks facility.
“The migrants were evacuated from the building while the Cayman Islands Fire Service extinguished the fire. No injuries are reported,” the statement said.
No further information was provided as to how the fire started or what part of the building was affected.

CBC added that further updates will be issued as the investigation continues.
