The first section of the Airport Connector Road, now named the Jay Bodden Highway, opened on Friday afternoon following an official ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Bodden family members and government officials.
The road, named after the late Jay Bodden, a local developer, connects the Esterley Tibbetts Highway, south of Camana Bay, to Allie B Drive in Industrial Park. Internal roads from there link to Sparkys Drive and North Sound Road.
The Ministry of Infrastructure says this new thoroughfare is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Seven Mile Beach and the Owen Roberts International Airport, and alleviate congestion at the roundabout by A. L. Thompson’s and the Industrial Park area.

Infrastructure Minister Jay Ebanks, speaking at the official ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday morning, said the opening of the new stretch of highway, as well as the recent expansion of the Linford Pierson Highway and the opening of the Bobby Thompson Roundabout, was “a testament to the support we have received from the communities we serve in Grand Cayman”.
He thanked the “exceptional team” at the National Road Authority and their subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
The road opened to the public at noon.
The Airport Connector Road project was approved in 2016 and work on the road began in October 2020.
The first phase of road four-lane highway cost $10.2 million to build, according to the National Roads Authority.
Once completed, the highway will be two miles long and will link the airport to the Esterley Tibbetts Highway.

Can we have an update on the “link”road that ends on N. Church St. Started more than 3 years ago (perhaps longer) it seems to be a “work without any progress” as nothing has happened in the last 18 months.
