Scholars mark historic win with 15th league title

Scholars ISC defeated 345 FC at the Centre of Excellence to win the CIFA 2023-24 Men’s Premier League.

Scholars International Sports Club’s men’s team have secured the Cayman Islands Football Association Men’s Premier League title for a record 15th time.

345 FC and Scholars faced off for the league championship on 28 April – a win for either coming with the knowledge they would be lifting the trophy at the end of the fixture.

Scholars won the match 3-1, marking their fourth consecutive league title. However, both teams finished with 30 points on the league table, so Scholars, for the second season straight, won on goal differential – separated from 345 by just two goals.

“Having to fight right until the last match is no easy task but one that was accomplished, together, as one,” Scholars wrote on their Instagram page. “Congratulations to our men on winning the 2023-24 Cayman Men’s Premier League.”

The 15-time champions finished the league as the best defensive team, having only conceded 15 goals.

345 finished as the top attacking side, scoring 47 times throughout their 14 league matches, with 18 of those goals coming from the top goal scorer Jonah Ebanks. His teammate Matthias Mijnheer was the runner-up on the goal table with 13.

Bodden Town FC, the 2019-20 winners and one of the favourites at the beginning of the season to win the league this year, settled for third place with 29 points.

Football action will continue throughout May under the CIFA banner, with gameplay in the women’s league and in the men’s first and second divisions.
