On the heels of an atypically rainy weekend, the National Weather Service is reporting another storm system may be heading toward the Cayman Islands.
The service sent a bulletin Thursday evening noting a disturbance in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico that may reach the islands any time between Friday and Tuesday.
“The area can develop into a tropical system, but the timing of when it could develop is not presently known,” the bulletin stated.
The weather service expects heaviest rainfall may come on Monday.
The brunt of the system could affect Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac, which the forecast said could experience an inch of rain.
Last Monday, more than six inches of rain fell on Grand Cayman in a day, almost a month’s worth in a day. After the storm, leaders including Governor Jane Owen reminded the community to prepare for the potential of an “extremely active” hurricane season.
The weather service plans to update the public at 6pm tomorrow.
