The Cayman Islands boys under-14 national team is gearing up to travel to Trinidad and Tobago for the Caribbean Football Union Boys U14 Challenge Series, set for 17-20 Aug.
“Our boys are working really hard and giving their all at training,” Cayman U14 coach Claudio Garcia said, noting the team has been preparing for the tournament since June.
The local boys will put that training to the test against regional counterparts from Barbados, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda and St. Vincent and the Grenadines as part of the series’s group A of tier 2 in the three-division event.
Cayman kicks off gameplay at Larry Gomes Stadium at 2pm on Saturday, 17 Aug. against St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Cayman will then take on Barbados the following day at the same time before playing Antigua and Barbuda at 4pm on Monday, 19 Aug.
The series group stage will conclude for Cayman on Tuesday, 20 Aug., when they will match up against Guyana at 11am.
“This is an important competition for this team as the players prepare for future competitions like next year’s Concacaf Under-15 Championship and the under-17 qualifiers,” Garcia said.
“We look forward to seeing how the players respond and grow,” he added, noting that he and his team are proud of all the work the boys have put in thus far.
