As a tropical storm advances towards the Cayman Islands, a dozen people arrived by boat on Cayman Brac in the early hours of Tuesday morning, Customs officials have said.
A spokeswoman for Customs and Border Control said the 11 men and one woman were detained and flown to Grand Cayman at 11:15am in advance of the approaching storm, expected to make landfall Tuesday evening in Little Cayman.
She added, “CBC, with initial support from partner agencies, responded accordingly and all migrants are being processed in accordance with established CBC protocols.”
The authorities did not disclose where the 12 people had travelled from, but they are thought to be Cuban nationals.
