Premier André Ebanks and Chief Justice Margaret Ramsay-Hale are to make keynote speeches at a major financial services summit in Cayman later this year.

It will be the first time Ramsay-Hale, who will highlight the judicial system’s role in shaping the country’s business world, has spoken at the Spectrum event, which will mark its fifth anniversary this year.

Paul Byles, the founder of the event and creator of Cayman management services firm FTS, said the event has become an important platform for dialogue between regulators and the financial services industry.

He added, “Spectrum brings together regulators, standard-setting bodies, financial services professionals and others to discuss current and emerging trends.

“Our aim is to promote thought leadership and support the continued development of the industry in a positive, solution-focused environment.”

Ebanks, who has taken part in the annual event since its launch as minister of financial services and commerce, a portfolio he has retained, will make another keynote speech, his first at the conference as premier.

The event will highlight the increased role of decentralised autonomous organisations, where the membership act as owner-managers with rules governed through computer code and enforced on a blockchain.

The conference will also get a rundown on changes in the legal framework governing the financial services industry as well a discussion of how environmental, social and governance practices can help Cayman stay competitive.

The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority will also run a special forum designed to showcase the latest regulatory developments.

The future of investment funds and the increased use of AI and algorithm-based risk remodelling in reinsurance will also be examined.

The organisers said Spectrum 2025 was designed not just to inform the industry but to bring financial institutions, policymakers and Cayman practitioners together and promote the value of the international financial centres and the vital role they play in the global economy.

Byles said, “We are proud of the space Spectrum has carved out in the industry and excited to see it continue to grow as a hub for insight, dialogue and progress.”

The conference will be held at Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa on 8 Oct.
