One escaped Cuban migrant remains at large

Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control Service confirmed on Monday morning, 9 Feb, that two Cuban male illegal migrants escaped from the immigration detention centre at Fairbanks on Saturday, 7 Feb 2026.

It is not clear how they escaped.

Customs and Border Control media liaison office, Cameca Parker, said in the press release that, “One of the escapees has since returned to the detention facility. Efforts are ongoing to locate the second individual.”

“CBC is actively working with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) and other partner agencies to locate the outstanding escapee and ensure public safety.”

According to Customs and Border Control, “There is no information to suggest that the individual poses a threat to the wider community,” however they are asking the public to remain vigilant.

“Assisting or harbouring an individual or helping them enter or leave the Cayman Islands unlawfully, is an offence under the Customs and Border Control Act (2024 Revision) and may result in a fine of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) and to imprisonment for seven (7) years,” they said.

Members of the public who may have information regarding the whereabouts of the escaped individual are asked to contact 911, CBC Intelligence Hotline at 1-800-534-2546, or the nearest police station.

To help locate the escaped migrant, Compass Media has requested the processing photo. The Compass has not yet received that image of the escaped detainee from CBC.
