The News 27 team will feature some new faces along with their traditional team of reporters:
Veteran reporter, Kafara Augustine, returns to the newsroom as a Reporter and Producer, while Tammi Sulliman becomes a full-time Reporter. Kenneth Bryan comes on board as a Reporter, and Jason Harper, takes the post of Sports Producer and Reporter.
‘We have an excellent mix of experience and young talent with strong ties to the community,’ said News Director April Cummings.
‘We take our role as journalists very seriously and are building a strong team while developing young Caymanians in this growing field.’
Ms. Augustine spent three years as a Reporter with the News 27 team before taking a brief hiatus.
She re-joins the team in a new role as both Reporter and Producer with a strong belief in providing a voice for the people.
‘Everyone deserves to have their story told and as a broadcast journalist it is my responsibility to get that message across in a fair and unbiased way – the people of Cayman deserve no less,’ Ms. Augustine said.
Ms. Sulliman is no stranger to News 27, having joined the team in 2007 as the Daybreak Associate Producer.
Ms. Sulliman made the move to News 27 at 6pm as Assignment Editor and Reporter and is excited to move into the role of full-time Reporter.
Ms. Sulliman said: ‘Taking the skills I acquired from my print experience and translating them effectively and concisely to the dynamic forum that is television is my particular challenge – and in doing so, I must ensure the stories I tell are relevant and accessible to all people of the Cayman Islands.’
Mr. Bryan comes to News 27 from Spin 94.9 where he was a DJ and radio host.
With a drug-related conviction on his record, Mr. Bryan feels a strong sense of responsibility to show young Caymanians that it is never too late to learn from mistakes.
‘My main goal is to use this great opportunity to be an example for those young men out there who are trying hard to change their lives, and show society that a person can change with focus and the right chances,’ Mr. Bryan said.
Mr. Harper began his journalism career at Caribbean Media Corporation.
Mr. Harper has covered several major international sporting events including 2006 Commonwealth Games, 2007 Cricket World Cup, IAAF World Championships, and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
‘I learned a lot at CMC … but felt it was time for a change. I am excited to bring my knowledge of regional and international sports to the team and hope to further develop diverse sports coverage highlighting grass roots organisations as well as major regional and international events,’ Mr. Harper said.
