After their match was postponed last Sunday due to bad weather, finally Elite FC and Future FC met up last Wednesday for CIFA’s Women’s League Finals at the T.E. McField ‘Annex’ Field.
In what was described as a ‘very hard game’, both teams took to the pitch and gave their all. Elite FC emerged victorious after the 90 minutes of play by a solitary goal from Michelle McField. The final result was 1-0, favoring Elite FC.
‘I think that the game was very intense, both teams played well considering the wet conditions, and I thank the good audience that supported the women’s final,’ said Coach Ebanks of Elite FC. ‘My interest throughout the entire season was to get in the final four. In preparing for this particular game my defense was very disciplined, but Future did not capitalize on the space I gave them. Future’s Shannell and Elite’s Michelle are the best goal scorers in the ladies league; I found that Michelle worked extremely hard in this game, she evidently wanted it, she received a pass from Martha in the first half and dribble in and placed the ball in the back of the net. Elite’s Cassiann was extremely disciplined as well, I gave her a role and she played it throughout the game and as a result she earned player of the match in my opinion’.
‘As long as there is good discipline and the players are enjoying the sport as well as the fans this is all I want. Good luck and best wishes to all of the teams for the upcoming season.’
Petrina Bernard, Captain of Elite FC, stated ‘We played a very hard game due to the conditions of the pitch. Future FC played a very good game, but we came out on top. I want to thank our Coach for sticking with us this season’.
It is interesting to point out that this was Elite FC first season and they won the League and were runner-ups in the FA Cup.
On a sweet note, Mrs. Florie Hulda Ebanks, grandmother of Future FC’s player Sacha Barnes, and who is 90 years old, came to the Annex to watch the game and to cheer on her granddaughter. After the match, Mrs Ebanks handed out the trophies to the runner-ups and the winner of the League.
The main Referee for the game was Livingston Bailey; 1st Assistant Referee was Mitchell St. Clair; 2nd Assistant Referee was Dwayne Ebanks and the Match Commissioner was Winston Blackwood.
All of them received medals for their participation.
