Police arrested five people after raiding two premises in West Bay on Friday morning, 3 Nov.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, in a statement, said its officers had conducted searches, under the Misuse of Drugs Act, at the two addresses on West Church Street.
When they arrived at the first address, two men attempted to flee. One was stopped and detained by officers, while the other escaped, police said.
When the officers searched the property, they found two packages of suspected ganja, along with lottery ticket books. They also searched the detained man and others at the address, and found 31 small packages of suspected ganja on another man at the premises.
At that address, police arrested a 24-year-old man, of West Bay, for resisting arrest and on suspicion of consumption of ganja, and a second man, age 43 of West Bay, on suspicion of possession and consumption of ganja.
At the second address, police also searched the premises and the people present there. One man was found to be in possession of a lottery ticket, and another man was found with records of lottery transactions and a quantity of cash. Suspected ganja was also found at the location.
Two men, ages 50 and 59, of West Bay, were arrested on suspicion of illegal gambling at that address. Another man, age 51, of George Town, was also arrested on suspicion of threats to kill in relation to a previous incident, police said.
The five arrested men were taken the Cayman Islands Detention Centre and were later granted bail as investigations continue.
