On Tuesday evening March 29th, Seven Mile Beach came alive with Bingo for Peace, a fundraising initiative toward Ukraine Humanitarian Relief. Organized by Rotary Club Central, and hosted by Craft Restaurant, the event raised CI$12k. Bingo For Peace attracted support from the community of three Rotary Clubs in Grand Cayman, along with guests. The 100 persons in attendance were welcomed at 6:00 pm by Rotary Central President Corleen Goodman Hoptroff.
Guests enjoyed a memorable evening of fellowship, winning raffle prizes, whilst nibbling on tasty servings of sumptuous Ukraine food, with Ukrainian themed drinks, playing games of Bingo, under the erstwhile guidance of Rotarian Carl of Rotary Sunrise, taking advantage of numerous offerings on auction, under the hammer of Rotarian Steve Tippetts, who elicited enthusiastic participation and bidding.
All funds will be routed through Rotary International, toward humanitarian needs, including the distribution of food, clothing, shelter, relocation of displaced women and children, and medical requirements. Rotary International remains one of the most trusted civic agencies in the world around relief initiatives. On the ground there are 62 Rotary Clubs in Ukraine who are the tip of the spear in this dynamic relief undertaking, they are working along with the Rotary Clubs of Poland and Belarus.
During the month of March, Rotary Clubs around the world, place emphasis on International Service, one of five Avenues of Service, Rotary Central Bingo For Peace, timely addresses the focus on International service around the crisis in Ukraine.
Whilst Community Service endeavors are core to the Rotary purpose, Rotary Central has been involved in providing funds for recent International Service initiatives, assisting with earthquake relief in Haiti August 2021, and relief for the victims of the major fire in Guanaja, Bay Islands Honduras, in October 2021.
Bingo For Peace was developed within days, brainchild of Rotary Central President Elect Jennifer Leach Tippetts, who led a lightening planning team of Rotary Central members, that worked in rapid response to the evolving crisis, to secure participation, sponsorship, and donations for this event while in compliance with health regulations.
In the midst of the first tourism season experienced in the Cayman Islands in 24 months, Craft Restaurant generously provided the venue to host, with all inside seating dedicated to Rotary Central Bingo For Peace event. Craft Restaurant further donated part proceeds from food and drink.
Rotary Central is indebted to Caribbean Club who provided the platinum auction prize. Donations toward the Bingo for Peace raffle were welcomed from Market Street Group, XQs Restaurant, Legendz Restaurant and Bar, CDG Group, Jessie’s Juice Bar, Ristorante Pappagalos, Cost U Less, Fosters, ALThompson’s Home Depot, Ragazzi Resaturant, George Carvello Beauty Salon, Cayman Spirits, Marriott Beach Resort, North Sound Golf Course, Caribbean Club, a host of Rotarians and other parties who prefer to remain anonymous.
