Three arrests have been made after the seizure of marijuana, mushrooms, THC infused gummies and THC vape cartridges at Owen Roberts International Airport.
Officials from Customs and Border Control (CBC) discovered “significant quantities” of the drugs during two searches on Friday, 31 March, and Sunday, 2 April.
The recovery of the illegal substances and paraphernalia led to the arrest of three people, a press release from CBC said, adding it is investigating both matters.
The Director of CBC Charles Clifford said he is concerned with the frequency of such seizures and the obvious demand for illegal substances which exists in the Cayman Islands.
“We must never lose focus on the severe impact that illegal drug supply and consumption has had and continues to have on the overall health and wellness of the general public.”
He added that the marijuana plant has been reengineered in recent years and is now “much more potent and risky than it once was”.
Minister for Border Control and Labour Dwayne Seymour thanked CBC officers for their “diligence and skilled approach” by stopping the illegal substances from entering Cayman’s community.
“Their dedication to securing our borders is very much appreciated,” he said.
