The trial of Kesley Arnoldo Martinez-Ebanks, who has pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, has been adjourned to 23 Jan., due to defence counsel Amelia Fosuhene being unwell.

The charge is related to an incident on South Church Street in Grand Cayman in 2021 that claimed the life of one woman and injured four others.

Just after 1am on Sunday, 23 May 2021 near Palm Springs condos, two cars – a Changan CS75 and a Honda Fit – were travelling in opposite directions when they collided.

Kiarah Shikale Perkins, 32, a US citizen and a Cayman resident who was driving the Honda Fit, was fatally injured in the crash.

Martinez-Ebanks, who was driving the Changan, and three other occupants of the vehicles, were hospitalised.

He was released on bail to return to court on 10 March, at which time a trial date was due to be set.

In Grand Court before Judge Cheryll Richards on 9 Jan., defence counsel said the date had been agreed to be adjourned to 23 Jan., with defence submissions due on 16 Jan.
