Police recently arrested two men for allegedly possessing an unlicensed firearm, and the pair appeared in court on Wednesday, according to a press release.
Officers initially arrested the two West Bay men, ages 24 and 30, on 21 April.
The RCIPS formally charged the younger man with possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of an unlicensed firearm (ammunition). They charged the older man with the same two charges, as well as driving in a dangerous manner.
Officers were patrolling near a West Bay Road plaza south of Public Beach when they noticed two men “behaving suspiciously”.
After seeing the police, the men in the vehicle sped off, colliding with another vehicle before it continued to drive away, according to the initial press release.
The RCIPS said officers observed the occupants throwing objects away from the car while continuing to flee. Police stopped them along Town Hall Road and discovered a single round of ammunition in the vehicle and a handgun with a loaded magazine nearby.
The two men remain in custody and are scheduled to next appear in court on 8 May.
