Police used pepper spray to subdue a man who they arrested on suspicion of drug offences on Seven Mile Beach.
He is the third man to be arrested for such offences in the past week.
According to the RCIPS, officers on patrol made the arrest late on Saturday afternoon after approaching the suspect, who they observed consuming what appeared to be ganja, and holding a bag that also appeared to contain the drug.
“The man attempted to flee on foot before officers could search him, however he was prevented from doing so by the officers,” police said.
A struggle ensued, during which the man continued to resist officers’ attempts to detain him, leading to an officer deploying pepper spray in order to subdue him, the RCIPS said.
When officers conducted a search of the man and his belongings, they recovered a significant quantity of suspected ganja, as well as cash in various currencies.
The 24-year-old man of George Town was arrested and taken into custody.
He was charged with consumption of ganja, possession of ganja, possession of ganja with intent to supply, and resisting arrest. He appeared in court on Monday.
Police have upped patrols along Seven Mile Beach following reports of drug activity along Public Beach. They arrested two other men there on Thursday, 19 Dec.
