A 72-year-old man, visiting from the US, died on Sunday afternoon after getting into distress while swimming off Seven Mile Beach.
Police said the man had been pulled from the sea by a member of the public after being discovered unconscious in the water off Governors Beach shortly before 2:20pm.
The person who removed him from the water, along with other beach-users, carried out first aid until an ambulance arrived.
The man was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced dead, the RCIPS said in a statement Monday afternoon.
This is the second reported water-related death this year. A 73-year-old female visitor from the US died after getting into difficulties while snorkeling on 11 Feb.
