Landfill needs new public-private partnership

Thanks to James Whittaker for his comprehensive article on the current status of the Cayman Islands landfill dilemma.

It is regrettable that government was unable to reach an agreement with Dart on this project. I am of the view that a well-structured public-private partnership (PPP) financing model can effectively tackle the Cayman Islands’ landfill problem, by integrating a waste-to-energy plant with recycling and composting initiatives; and that negotiations on this very important facility should be resumed at the earliest opportunity.

A well-structured PPP can provide the necessary funding, expertise and operational efficiency while ensuring long-term sustainability.
