Guilty plea in Little Cayman ganja

In Summary Court on 20 December, a Dutch national admitted possession of the 300 pounds of ganja fond aboard a vessel that sank last month off Little Cayman (Caymanian Compass, 10 December).

Andries van Tongeren, 45, pleaded guilty to charges of possession with intent to supply and importation on 10 November.

No details were given. Magistrate Nova Hall set sentencing for 13 January. That was said to be the trial date for three Jamaican nationals alleged to have been on the vessel.

The ‘intent to supply’ charge refers to supply by the defendant or another person, whether in these Islands or elsewhere.

As reported previously, the ganja was found in the vessel’s fuel tanks when the yacht was searched by a team of officers from Customs, Police, Drugs Task Force, Immigration and the Department of Environment Marine Enforcement agencies from both Grand Cayman and the Sister Islands.
