Antigua shocks Trinidad

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Antigua and Barbuda scored a surprise 2-1 victory over World Cup hopefuls Trinidad and Tobago in a friendly soccer match Wednesday.

Substitute striker Peter Byers scored in the 48th minute and Rowan Isaac kicked in another goal in the 59th minute to give Antigua a hard-fought triumph at the Antigua Recreation Ground. Nigel Pierre had tied the score for Trinidad in the 55th minute. The visitors were using the game a warm up for their the second-leg third round Digicel Caribbean Cup match against St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Sunday in Kingstown, St. Vincent. Trinidad won the first-leg 3-1 on Sunday. Trinidad’s next World Cup qualifier comes Feb. 9 against the United States in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.
