Police chief search begins

The appointment of a new commissioner for the Royal Cayman Islands Police has moved a step nearer.

Interviews for the job were held on Monday and Tuesday and an appointment could be made and announced shortly, said Head of the Governor’s Office Simon Tonge.

Eight candidates – two local and six from the UK – were interviewed, he said

He confirmed that the local candidates were Acting Commissioner Rudolph Dixon and Acting Assistant Commissioner Derek Haines.

The interview panel was chaired by the Governor, Mr. Bruce Dinwiddy, and was made up of Attorney General Sam Bulgin, Chief Secretary George McCarthy and Overseas Territories Law Enforcement Adviser Larry Covington.

The post of commissioner became vacant when Caymanian Mr. Buel Braggs left the job for personal reasons earlier in the year.
