The National Gallery has a new course for children aged 7-9 years-old, according to a GIS press release.
Discover the Great Masters aims to tap the need for serious extra-curricular art study for children who have display some artistic talent.
The course runs Saturdays starting 24 September and running through 10 December, between 11am and 12.30pm at the new National Gallery Education Centre at the former Merren’s Plaza.
Italian-born instructor Dora Williams, studied locally for four years under Pauline Ronald (former Head of the Art Department at the University of Indiana), and has attended numerous on-island workshops. She works principally with acrylics, oils and mixed media (collage and acrylic).
Ms Williams will guide young students through the history of art using related art activities.
Youngsters will start off looking at the Renaissance, with Giotto, making paint pigment with egg, da Vinci and his inventions, Uccello and the study of perspective, the skills of apprenticeship and Michelangelo, and figure painting and drawing and Raphael.
Registration is CI$170 and the course is limited to 15 participants.
