CIFA and DIGICEL team up

The Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) and Digicel have teamed up to create a partnership that will present the CIFA Digicel Cayman Cup over the next four years.

The tournament which is designed to include all senior level football teams within the Cayman Islands, will take the format of a round-robin knock out competition culminating with a grand finale in the first quarter of the New Year. The winners and runners up will be handsomely rewarded with cash and prizes. Digicel, which has made its mark on the region via sponsorship of various sporting organizations, notably the Caribbean Football Union’s Caribbean Cup and West Indies Cricket, has now come on board with the local football family.

‘The Cayman Islands Football Association feels proud to welcome Digicel as a partner,’ said CIFA President Jeffrey Webb. ‘Not only is this a welcomed addition to CIFA’s calendar of events but it will also create additional avenues for players to compete and develop.’ President Webb thanked Digicel for their stellar community involvement to date and urged other members of the private sector to follow suite. Digicel Marketing Manager Tina Trumbach added, ‘Digicel is very pleased to support the CIFA Digicel Cayman Cup as a tournament that will showcase the best football talent that the Cayman Islands have to offer. Football is one of the most popular and most played sports in the Cayman Islands from junior through to senior levels. We are looking forward to assisting CIFA in taking Cayman football to its highest possible level.’

With mounting enthusiasm amongst Cayman’s avid ‘ballers’ the tournament is bound to provide even higher levels of competition and increased visibility for the Cayman Islands.

The first match is scheduled for kick-off bright and early in the New Year, on Saturday January 7th, 2006. Venue and time to be announced.
