Royal Cayman Islands Police are searching for two men who investigators said held a store clerk at gun point Friday night while taking money from a cash register.
No was hurt during the heist at the Crewe Rd. Mini-mart, but police said the store employee was ‘very shaken’ by the incident.
Officers said two men with their faces partially covered entered the store just before 9.30pm Friday. The two demanded cash and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
An extensive search of the area by police K-9 units turned up nothing on Friday night.
The first suspect was described as slim, about 5’8′ with a black shirt. The second is thought to be about 5’9′ and was also wearing a black shirt. Both men were dark-skinned.
The heist is one of the few armed robberies reported here this year.
‘Incidents such as these are very rare in the Cayman Islands,’ Police Commissioner Stuart Kernohan said. ‘It is important that anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident contact detectives.’
Police are asking people with pertinent information to call Detective Constable Paulette Hines at 244-3070 or 925-8751.
