The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service was forced to shut down access to the Sandbar Tuesday morning because of bad weather conditions in the North Sound.
The joint Customs and RCIPS Marine Unit said they would be checking the area throughout the day and would notify the public when it was safe to open the area to boaters again.
‘It was reviewed at 6.30am this morning and it was pretty rough and choppy and it was expected to get worse,’ said RCIPS Public Relations Officer Deborah Denis. ‘The boating community is thanked for their cooperation.’
Under the Port Authority Law 1999, the RCIPS is allowed to close or restrict access to the area to prevent injury and preserve life.
