Cricketers keep bats busy

Cricket continues to be in full swing.

In division two action on Saturday a week ago, Team Dta looked for its first win against middle of the pack Welly’s at the Smith Road Oval.

JJ’s hoped to gain ground against UCCI at the Jimmy Powell Oval while Cayman Brac aimed to stay ahead of Pro Plus in Cayman Brac.

In division one action on Sunday, By-Rite aimed for its first win against C&W Schools at the Jimmy Powell Oval. In addition, frontrunners Prison hosted Paramount at SRO.

As the season continues, games will see more great performances. At the end of play on the weekend of 17 May, there were seven half-centuries and six individuals that took three or more wickets.

In division two, Zitroy Robertson’s 57 led West Bay to 210-5 and a 30-run victory over UCCI with Steadman Gray and Ugal Sickard chipping in with three wickets each.

Michael Reid’s 63 was not enough as Team Dta, all out for 193, fell by nine wickets to Bright Staff Greenies. Greenies enjoyed a 194-1 score thanks to a 4-33 spell from Chris Taskie plus Faisal Ahmed’s 84 not out and Matthew Walker’s 71.

In division one Police posted 127-2 and dominated Esso (125 all out) by eight wickets thanks to spells of 5-17 from Dave Cumberbatch and 4-17 for Alessandro Morris.

C&W Schools posted 211-8 to beat Bright Staff Greenies’ mark of 206 all out by two wickets. Greenies came up just short in spite of Steve Smith’s 80, Tom Stephen’s 66 and Faisal Ahmed bowling 3-36. Ramon Sealy’s 65 plus the bowling of 4-41 by Omar Willis and 3-15 by Mark Chin led the way.

The following are the standings as of Friday, 23 May.

In division one, Police is first place with an unbeaten record of 5-0 and have 27 points. Prison is also unbeaten at 4-0 and is second with 22 points.

The third spot sees two squads tied at 10 points. Esso has two wins and two losses while C&W Schools has two wins and three losses.

Thereafter is another tie as Bright Staff Greenies is 1-4 with five points and Paramount is 1-3 with five points. By-Rite is winless with no points at 0-3.

Meanwhile in division two, West Bay is the lone unbeaten at 6-0 and is in first with 30 points. Cayman Brac is second at 4-2 with 20 points.

Third place sees a tie between Pro Plus at 3-2 with 15 points and Bright Staff Greenies at 3-4 with 15 points. Also UCCI at 2-2 and Welly’s at 2-3 are tied with 10 points.

Bring up the rear is JJ’s at 1-4 with five points and winless Team Dta at 0-4 with no points.
