Roma have tough Digicel defence

Roma United Sports Club defending champions of the Cayman Islands Football Association Digicel Cup Knockout have a tough first match in the competition.

They face Premier League leaders Elite in a crucial game in the first phase of this competition on Sunday 7 December at the Ed Bush Stadium in West Bay at 7pm.

This was announced at the Digicel Knockout draw at the Camana Bay Digicel Store on Tuesday.

The draw was done by Head of Marketing Casandra Harris and David Frederick Vice President of CIFA under the watchful eyes of Jeffrey Webb President of CIFA Technical Director Carl Brown and representatives of the participating teams.

The other game to be played at this same venue will be between Scholars International FC and Sunset FC at 5pm.

At the Annex, Tigers will face George Town at 5pm and at 7pm Latinos FC encounters Future SC.

Last season Roma clipped George Town 1-0 with a goal from Wayne ‘Bigga’ Smith in the final after dismissing Elite in the semis to mark the first silverware for Roma’s cabinet in the history of their affiliation with CIFA.

Elite are now sharing ten points at the top of the Premier League table with Sunset while Roma are bottom with a single point they earned after a 0-0 draw with Scholars International in the fourth set of games in the competition.

This will certainly be an interesting game. The young Elite side has matured and have not lost at all this season. Can Roma get past this stage of this competition?

Roma President Bobby Sairsingh proudly stated in a brief comment that his team will step up to the pace and defend their title passionately.

He said: ‘Roma will be ready to play each game successfully in the Digicel Knock-Out Cup as the competition progresses. We will defend our championship vehemently.’
