Kernohan, Jones cleared

Acting Commissioner of Police James Smith issued a statement on Friday saying former RCIPS Commissioner Stuart Kernohan and Chief Superintendent John Jones would not face criminal charges arising out of the Operation Tempura Investigation.

‘Following the conclusion of inquiries by the special investigation team into alleged criminal conduct by [Mr. Kernohan and Mr. Jones], the Attorney General’s Chambers has reviewed the files and has concluded that there is insufficient evidence to prefer any criminal charges against either…’ the press release stated.

‘As Acting Commissioner of Police, I have advised the special investigation team that no charges will be laid and that the criminal inquiry into former Commissioner of Police, Stuart Kernohan and Chief Superintendent John Jones is concluded.

Mr. Smith said Mr Kernohan and Mr Jones have also been notified through their legal counsel.
