Pedestrian in serious condition after wreck

Royal Cayman Islands Police are investigating a Thursday evening accident where a woman was struck by a car.

The accident happened just after 6pm on the East-West Arterial Road near Hirst Road in Newlands.

Police said the driver of a white Mazda Alteeza lost control, veered off the road and struck a pedestrian who was walking on the side of the road.

The 24-year-old female pedestrian who was struck was taken to the Cayman Islands hospital. She was in serious condition, suffering from head injuries, according to police.

The Mazda’s driver was not hurt.

  1. Re obsession on drunk drivers, ask anyone who rides a bike: We’d rather contend with drivers with a beer in a hand and concentrating on the road than a cell phone and in another world. Distracted driving is much more lethal but acceptable to the moralists among us.
