Anglin wants net gains

Local netball is getting a boost ahead of its annual season.

The Cayman Islands Netball Association is pleased to announce it will be getting a technical director and new court surfaces for the 2011-2012 campaign. The announcement was made at last month’s closing ceremony for the 2010-2011 netball season.

Delivering the news on behalf of the local government was Director of Sports Collin Anglin. The West Bay native announced that his department would appoint a technical director for netball to keep the focus sport in line with other disciplines. Anglin states that government is also making a priority to improve the current playing facility.

“We have improved the seating area and resurfaced the netball courts at Truman Bodden Complex,” Anglin said. “Women and sports have come a long way from the days when women were not allowed to participate. I’m proud of netball, given that women predominate it and they are proving they are just as good as men in sports.”

Work on the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts is taking place this month. The goal is for the area to be ready to host games next month in the netball association open league, Cayman’s national netball competition for female players.
