Barracudas snapping for rebound

The Barracudas should be eager to maintain their top spot in local ball hockey.

In the Cayman Islands Ball Hockey League, the squad sits atop the standings at 3-1. However their first loss of the season came last week to team Coconut Joes.

On Thursday, 3 November, the Barracudas are in action against the 2-2 Sharks. As usual, Kings Sports Centre hosts the contest at 8pm. For the green and blue warriors they will need more valiant efforts from the likes of Darren Gallant, Dan Allard and Mark Thompson. All are in the top five in scoring with a combined 18 points off 10 goals.

Barracudas goalie Randy Cannon will need to stay sharp though. The Sharks head into Thursday night after a convincing victory over the Deloitte Devil Rays last week. In spite of a short bench, the two-time finalists dictated the pace of the game and got a number of scoring chances. Leading the charge was the French connection of Renald Duran and Jean Philippe Valiquette.

Thursday’s other contest sees Coconut Joes taking on Deloitte at 9pm. The Joes are in the hunt for a regular season title at 3-1 thanks to a trio of roller hockey stalwarts in goalie Dan Etherington, Pete Holowchuk and new ball hockey association president Jamie Lyon. It also doesn’t hurt that the side has the league’s leading scorer in Mark Missal (six goals).

Meanwhile the 1-3 Devil Rays are reeling in spite of veteran play from Brent Forsyth and Leo Kassam. For Deloitte to get back into the mix they will need more production from captains Rob Rintoul and Michael Hall (together they have one goal and two assists).
