Goodies galore for all

Race day is fast approaching and organisers of the Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon are still working earnestly to secure great prizes for runners, two of which are a pair of exquisite TAG Heuer watches for the top male and female marathoners courtesy of sponsor Kirk Freeport.

All finishers in the marathon, half marathon and 4-person relay on Sunday 4 December receive a specially designed medal for their valiant efforts. In addition, the top three male and female marathoners and half marathoners in the age categories of 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and over will be given awards. This year four team categories have been created and the first three teams in each division to cross the finish line will receive awards. Those categories are all males; all females; open mixed which is any combination of males and females; and corporate which is any combination of males and females from the same company.

Many of the prizes are being donated by sponsors of the event, including mobile phones from Digicel, airline tickets from Cayman Airways, packages from Dolphin Discovery and gift certificates from Smoothie King and the Marriott Resort.

To date, other gift certificates have been given by Eclipze Hair Design & Day Spa, Hard Rock Café, Hemingway’s Restaurant, the Westin Casuarina Resort and Black Trumpet. Runners’ race packets will also include gift items from event sponsors.

Kids participating in the Kids Fun Run will be eligible for prizes courtesy of sponsor MILO. Goodies include MILO soccer balls, a MILO bike and samples of MILO’s tasty products. In addition, TCBY has also come back on board once again this year as sponsor of the competition between the schools.

The school with the most kids participating in the Kids Fun Run will win a TCBY party for 100 kids at the school.

Over 200 visitors along with their family and friends are travelling to the Cayman Islands to participate in the Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon, and organisers hope to make a good impression on them, thanks to the generosity of this year’s tourism partners. The runners and their families will be greeted at the airport with gift bags that include Blackbeard rum cakes, taffy courtesy of Cayman Taffy, samples from Cayman Sea Salt and coupons from The Activity Centre, Cayman’s only discount ticket outlet.

“We are so grateful to all of our sponsors and supporters who have provided us with these great gifts for our runners,” says race director Rhonda Kelly of Kelly Holding Ltd. “I don’t think anyone runs 26.2 miles, 13.1 miles or even 6.5 miles just to win a prize but it is a bonus and a reward which can prove very motivational.”

Registration for the 2011 Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon, Half Marathon, Team Relay and Kids Fun Run is open online at CaymanIslandsMarathon.com. Walk-in registration can also be done at the Kelly Holding office.
