Ten schools competed in this year’s inter-schools art competition, the Governor’s Cup at Art@Governors.
The theme of this year’s competition was Art is a universal Language.
“The aim of this award is to promote excellence in the study of art, to reward talent and to encourage artistic debate among students, teachers, schools and the public,” said Eme Paschalides, education manager of the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands. Ms Paschalides headed up the competition.
This year, entries were divided into primary and secondary divisions to create an even playing field between older and younger students. An additional Red Dot award was also added. Cayman Islands Governor Duncan Taylor and his wife, Beatrice, placed red dots on their favourite individual pieces of artwork. They were also the overall judges of this competition.
Prospect Primary School took first place in the primary division, and George Town Primary was the runner-up.
In the secondary division, Triple C took first place for the second consecutive year. Cayman International School collected runner-up honours.
