Originally from Jamaica, Carla has been sharing her passion for fitness with World Gym members for 10 years.
Although she has had a keen interest in fitness ever since high school, Carla worked as a travel agent, hotel entertainment manager and an IBM engineer, until she decided to exchange her toolbox for dumbbells.
As a group fitness instructor and personal trainer at World Gym, Carla draws on many years of experience in a wide variety of sports and disciplines. She studied Taekwondo for 15 years earning a second degree black belt and competing internationally, before switching to bodybuilding. Carla has won several competitions in body building, bikini fitness and power lifting, including taking first place in the 2004 Miss Universe Championship in Barbados.
In addition to certificates from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, the International Sports Science Association and the Professional Fitness and Nutrition programme, Carla has also trained female police officers in self-defence, has completed courses in body Pump, Body Combat and Body Flow.
“I train all types of clientele from young athletes, teenagers, the elderly, obese people, bodybuilders, fitness models and more. I only require they give me their best – it’s going to require a lot of sweat,” she says. It’s not about competing against others, however. “You don’t need to be better than anyone else, you just need to be better than you used to be.”
