RCIPS fire main
Two people were injured in a fire at the George Town Police Station Wednesday morning.

The fire service responded to the call shortly after 10am and were assisting at the police station.

The fire was reported within the building. Police said one prisoner and a police officer were taken to hospital, apparently suffering from smoke inhalation.

All other occupants of the building were evacuated without injury, police said.

The fire was quickly extinguished, but the building is still smoke-filled. Staff are in the process of establishing a temporary police office within the former vehicle licensing office in Elgin Avenue.

Police said anyone wishing to call George Town police station should use the following number until further notice: 943-4311.
