Snorkeller dies

A 56-year-old American tourist died Sunday night while snorkelling off East End.

Police said they received a report of a male snorkeller being found unconscious about 10.05pm Sunday, 27 May, in the sea close to Morritt’s Tortuga Resort.

The man, who was visiting Grand Cayman from his home in Tampa, Florida, had been snorkelling with a friend. When they became separated, his friend exited the water and then re-entered in an attempt to locate the snorkeller, who he found unconscious and floating on the water a short time later.

His friend brought him back to shore and administered CPR until paramedics arrived.

The victim was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
