Greenies have reason to drink

Greenies 1 are the new champions of Cayman Islands cricket. After many years of being close but just not quite achieving it, Greenies 1 battled on proving that it is never over until the last ball is bowled.

Greenies 1 defeated Police by six wickets and crowned themselves the best for 2012. It was a season of many ups and downs with the inconsistent weather having a major effect. Many matches were lost through rain. Front runners By Rite lead the table all the way until the final day but it was Greenies who walked away on top.

Known previously more for the consumption of Heineken, who sponsor the team, Greenies have sobered up in recent seasons and that improved attitude has paid off.

It was an excellent all round performance by Greenies 1 who limited Police to a small score of 153. An entertaining 93 runs by Ramon Sealy was the only sparkle for Police as Greenies pacer Marlon Bryan and spinner Alessandro Morris picked up three wickets each. Sacha de Alwis 62 not out, and Mark Randall 43 ensured that no mistakes were made on the drive to victory. Matthew ‘Tex’ Walker celebrated the title with the birth of his first child, Clara, later that night!

Division T20 is scheduled to begin on Sunday 22 July.

In Division 2, Esso Cubs are back in the hunt for championship honours by defeating contender Aims Consultants. Anthony Higgins took four wickets and Gregory Smith three. They were the chief destroyers for Esso Cubs but it was a determined 45 knock by Omar Willis which took Esso Cubs home by two wickets.

Paramount was made to fight all the way for victory against Schools. Ronald Ebanks 78, Shane Cato and Edward Bodden 24 runs each set Schools total up to 175 runs. Joeniel Bent put a major scare into Paramount by picking up four wickets but the experience of Carlton West 34 not out took Paramount to victory by three wickets
