The Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort is the summer home of intern Sarah Hydes.
No stranger to Cayman’s main attraction of beautiful Seven Mile Beach, Miss Hydes studied hospitality management at the University College of the Cayman Islands for two years, obtaining her associate degree.
“Having been around influential people in the industry, I gained an insight and interest to develop a career in tourism,” Miss Hydes said.
“My teacher, Belinda Blessitt at UCCI, was able to show me all of the different opportunities that there are.”
To further her education Miss Hydes enrolled at Johnson and Wales University at the North Carolina Campus, completing her first year to attain her bachelor of science degree.
Miss Hydes hopes “to gather hands on training which cannot be obtained in the classroom” and apply her education to the areas that she will be interning in such as food and beverage, events and sales and marketing.
“We are very proud to have the opportunity to open our doors and provide Sarah with the necessary practical experience that she needs,” said Fernando Soler, director of human resources at Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort.
“Sarah serves as a great example for other young people in the community and we are hopeful that when she has finished her studies that she may consider returning to the Grand Cayman Marriott to take up a full time position with our company.”
Miss Hydes added that by the end of her internship she would like to have developed a path or have a better direction as to which sector she would like to pursue in the hospitality industry.
“No matter who it is that is training me, they are always willing to provide me with answers to all of my questions.”
Mr. Soler said that the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort welcomed Sarah to the hospitality and tourism industry and wished her all the best in her future endeavours.
