Been meaning to clear out that wardrobe for a while? Have those boxes in the garage gathered a little too much dust?
The car boot sale on Saturday, 4 August, which takes place in the Lobster Pot parking lot, George Town, could be just the incentive you need to sort out your unwanted items.
“By participating in the car boot sale, people can clean out their closets, sell old treasures, find some new ones and raise some funds and awareness for Sea Sense,” says Marnie Laing, owner and operator at Cayman Sea Elements.
As well as selling your old possessions and finding some great deals on new ones, there will be face painting for kids and refreshments will be available. Proceeds from this event will benefit Cayman Sea Sense, which is a sustainable seafood education programme designed to help people and restaurants make informed and environmentally positive seafood choices.
The main project of Sea Sense is to provide ‘Seafood Watch cards’ to help people make these choices. The objectives are to educate the general public about issues facing our oceans and to increase our understanding of the impact we make on the ocean when purchasing seafood products.
Cayman Sea Sense is in need of funds to help create more educational and promotional material for the programme.
“There will be information about Sea Sense at the Boot Sale and we are hoping to have some light entertainment present,” says Marnie. “Making smart choices about seafood is healthy for each of us, for future generations, and for Earth’s oceans.”
So get involved: clear out some clutter, find some new treasures and help out a good cause.
