The popularity of the Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon continues to increase not only with runners but also with the corporate community who is seeing the value of the event and reaching out to the organisers about getting involved in the race in some way.
Bliss Living Yoga, Coppertone, Duke’s Seafood & Rib Shack and Cost-U-Less are the latest companies to join a solid group of Marathon sponsors, many of whom have been supporting the event for numerous years.
“We are so excited to welcome these fine businesses to our family, and we’re looking forward to great partnerships with them,” said race director Rhonda Kelly of Kelly Holding.
“We recognise that many companies are cutting their sponsorship budgets in these tough economic times so we are very grateful to all of our sponsors who have stuck with us through thick and thin, and these new supporters who have chosen to invest in this great event. We do not take it lightly, and we appreciate the confidence that they have placed in the race.”
Kelly says that many of the sponsors encourage their staff to participate in the race itself as part of their support, and mentioned title sponsor Intertrust who registered five relay teams, nine half marathoners and one full marathoner for the 2011 event.
Sponsors also give prizes or special offers as part of their sponsorship. Bliss Living Yoga is offering every registered runner one free yoga class if they show proof of registration for the race, as well as giving several prize packs to winners.
“Bliss Living and Yoga has been a supporter of the Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon since 2009 but this year marks our first as an official supporter and we could not be prouder,” said Janelle Kroon, Bliss co-founder who ran the half-marathon last year.
“Bliss is committed to overall wellness, and thrives on participating in community events that bring excellent energy, happiness and health to Cayman. This event is a must to experience and we are excited to be a part of it.”
“Not only do the sponsors enhance the race through their financial contributions but also through their well-known brands,” explained Kelly.
“Flowers Bottled Water has been with us from the beginning and everyone knows how important water is to an event like this. Gatorade provides the assurance not only to our local runners but to visitors that they are getting a sport drink that they know and trust.
“Tag Heuer makes winning the full marathon truly worth it with the high quality timepieces given to the winners. We are so grateful to all our sponsors.”
“Progressive Distributors is delighted to provide Gatorade, Quaker and Coppertone products this year once again through our sponsorship because we believe the Cayman Islands Marathon is a great community and international event that promotes health and wellness to individuals both young and old,” said Gina Peck, marketing supervisor. “The event is key in promoting Cayman as a family-friendly destination and PDL looks forward to a continued partnership with both the race and its organisers.”
Kelly also made special mention of the race’s major sponsor, the Department of Tourism. “DoT has really made the race possible with their support. We have a great partnership with them that we believe is mutually beneficial. Last year the race brought more than 600 tourists to the island and that number will definitely be higher this year. These are people coming to the island specifically to take part in the race. That speaks volumes for our country and this event.”
