Another cohort graduates

On Wednesday, 12 December, the ninth cohort of the Passport2Success programme graduated.

A total of 23 young Caymanians advanced through the course, with six of the graduates finding employment, while others continue to seek employment with their new skills or return to school to continue on with their educational pursuits.

The programme began more than three years ago with the idea of helping young Caymanians between the ages of 17 and 20, who were having trouble locating suitable employment.

Success of the programme in the community relies in part on the collaboration of the private sector and the Cayman Islands Ministry of Education, Training and Employment.

Shannon Seymour of the Wellness Centre, who co-ordinates and facilitates the programme for the ministry, said, “Passport2Success continues to be successful because of the relationship between the government and the private sector. This allows us to provide opportunities to make our students successful.” “The support Passport2Success has garnered is as true representation of the community coming together,” she continued.

Ministry of Education Chief Officer Mary Rodrigues congratulated the students on their commitment to the programme.

“Everyone here has the earned the right of success,” she said. “Your continued commitment has allowed this programme to earn a high reputation in the community with refined and driven individuals. As such, all of you who have graduated today are now ambassadors of the programme and you are a part of our family and our continued success.”

Managing Director of Webster’s Tours, Kenrick Webster, who has provided the transportation for the Passport2Success programme, joined the celebration for the graduates and their on-going success.

He said, “When the Passport2Success programme began and the ministry sent out requests for transportation, I decided to do it at no charge. I wanted to make an impact on our young people in the community.”
