Royal Cayman Islands Police were kept busy in the early morning hours of Saturday by a number of incidents, according to police reports.
Just after 5am, police said a man standing outside his apartment on Old Crewe Road was held up by two masked men; one of whom appeared to be holding a silver pistol.
Police said the robbers ordered their victim into his apartment, where he handed the suspects $54 and Nokia phone.
The apartment resident was not hurt and no shots were fired during the robbery.
No arrests were immediately reported. One of the suspects was described as 6’2″ tall and thin with a fair complexion. The other man was 5’9″ tall and thin. No further descriptions were given.
Police responded to a fire that gutted a four-bedroom house in West Bay, also around 5am Saturday.
According to a resident inside the home, she was awakened by a “boom sound”. She evacuated through her bedroom window.
Police said the interior of the home was largely destroyed by fire, but no one was hurt in the blaze.
Cubans in custody
Around 1am Saturday, a 30-foot boat carrying 16 Cuban migrants was found by police docked in SaveHaven.
The refugees, 12 men and four women, had been at sea about 20 days, they said.
Immigration officers transported the 16 Cubans to the migrant detention centre in George Town.
