The Cayman Islands Department of Environmental Health is cutting its residential garbage collections from twice a week to once a week due to ongoing mechanical problems with its trucks.
The existing twice-weekly service is being cut in half because of the delay in fixing the vehicles.
Commercial customers will also be affected and the department has told them to expect delays in their services.
“The Department of Vehicle and Equipment Services is working to have the trucks back in operation,” read a statement from the Department of Environmental Health issued Monday.
“The DEH apologises for the inconvenience caused as efforts are being made to normalise and improve the collection services,” the statement continued.
Garbage collection services on the Sister Islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are operating as normal.
