Greenies 1 began their defence of the Cayman Islands Cricket Association on a winning note defeating Police by 42 runs.
Batting first, Greenies 1 scored 150 for 4 with outstanding performances from Ryan Bovell 68n.o and captain Chris Palmer 53. Bowling for Police, Nigel Strough had excellent figures of 4 overs, 3 wickets for 13 runs.
Zachary McLaughlin 52n.o batted well in a losing effort for the Police. An all-round organised Greenies bowling display was well supported in the field.
By Rite, the main challengers to Greenies in 2012, has begun on the right track for another showdown as they defeated ESSO Tigers by 65 runs. Following on Ainsley Hall 49, captain Conroy Wright spent little time in scoring 33 runs taking his team to 147 for 7.
Gregory Smith 3 for 13 and Adrian Wright 2 for 10 were the main bowlers for By Rite as they rolled over Esso Tigers.
In the women’s league, Panthers and Dr. Jackman Islanders started the season well, defeating Greenies and Stingrays respectively.
Panthers had an emphatic victory defeating Greenies by 9 wickets with Wyvonne Forbes 39n.o and captain Molly Ann Moore 21 leading them to victory.
There was good all-round batting and bowling from Dr. Jackman Islanders, with captain Sheila Rankine 25 and 2 for 13 and Nadine Russell 22 leading them to a narrow victory by two runs over Stingrays.
