Missing jet skier found safe

A four-hour nighttime sea and air search for a missing jet skier ended shortly before midnight Sunday when the 58-year-old woman was found at a family member’s condo.

The woman was reported missing by her husband after the pair had been jet skiing together on separate jet skis off Morgan’s Harbour. When the husband could not find his wife, he alerted police who launched a search involving RCIPS and private boats, as well as a helicopter search from the sky.

It turns out the woman had left the area and gone straight to the condo and had not been in any danger, police said.

Police had earlier warned the couple about speeding on their jet skis near Morgan’s Harbour. Half an hour later, about 7.30pm, the husband contacted police to say that he had lost sight of his wife on her jet ski.

A large scale search and rescue operation was immediately launched involving the Joint Marine and Air Operations Units. Several private boats also joined the search.

Police and boaters searched beach areas, docks, canals and the North Sound throughout the night, but found no sign of the missing woman or her jet ski.
“Then, just before midnight, police received a call to say that the woman was with a family member at a condo complex on Seven Mile Beach,” a statement from the RCIPS said Monday. “The search was stood down shortly after midnight when officers spoke to the woman and confirmed that she was indeed safe and well.”
